Numark DM 950 Price £39.99
numark mixer

This best selling beginners mixer first appeared at the beginning of the year in our extremely popular Funkmaster and Battlepacks. It`s been so highly regarded in that time that Numark have decided to make it available it on its own, not just as part of the pack - so it`s now going to get even more popular.

A simple 2 channel mixer, with 2 band EQ controls and gain on each channel, microphone input and 1/4` stereo headphone jack output, this is going to become a classic starter mixer, and is well worth the money for beginners. The mixer features a replaceable crossfader, and a mini crossfader for panning between channels one and 2 in your headphones, so you can check the mix out before you make the change. All in all an excellent starters product.

Equipment required by a DJ

Basic equipment

Amp
Speakers
Stands
Decks all in one is much easier for beginner DJ's
Microphone
Headphones
Power leads
A real good mixture of music
A couple of lights
Personality

These are the important items that you need to perform to an audience. To begin with you will only need a 400watt - 1000watt amp, amps within this range will give you clear sound, enough to fill a small to medium sized venue. You will also need a set of two speakers to match the amp. We feel stands are an important piece of your sound equipment because the higher the speakers are the clearer the sound because it can travel around the room. Also stands are an important for safety reasons so you do need a decent set to ensure they don't fall.

When buying decks you need to decide what you want either CD or vinyl. CD is a lot more profitable when DJing for mixed groups of people because vinyl is harder to get hold of and a lot more expensive. When your starting we recommend that you go for a basic set of CD decks that are easy for you to use.

Headphones and a microphone are two things that every DJ needs the headphones obviously to cue up the music and the mic to speak and motivate them. Both headphones and mics start at low prices and go upwards but it all depends how much you are willing to spend on them. Personally I would go for mid range stuff because it's reliable and you will still use it when you upgrade to a better system.

A real good mix of music is very important when playing to large mix groups of people. You will have to cover most tastes of music both old and modern and all different genres. You can also DJ a specific type of music like dance or urban. You must remember no party is the same there are always different people with different likes and dislikes. Personality is important because a large and sometimes hard part of the job it motivating the people, you need to be confident dealing with people and also able to talk on a microphone in front of people. We found it a big help to make a example tape of ourselves this way you know what songs go with what and also what to say and what not to say. Also playing to family and friends helps build your confidence, they will give you an honest answer as to what they thought.

When DJing for people you do need lights but when getting started basic lights are fine. Too many light can be annoying and give you too much to deal with so we would say just a couple of lights will be fine when getting started. Lights at the front of you set up make a big difference to the overall appearance of your set up it helps make it look more professional and interesting. These are fairly cheap but we built our first ones and we still use them.

Pioneer DJM1000 Price £1,990.00
pioneer mixer

This is it, the holy grail of digital mixing... Pioneer have created the worlds first, pure digital DJ mixer with a sound quality that puts rivals such as Allen and Heath to shame.
The Pioneer DJM-1000, the ultimate club install DJ mixer, perfect with Pioneer`s CDJ1000 Mk2 DJ CD Decks and Stanton`s ST-150 digital turntables... Welcome to the new industry standard.

High Sound Quality Design
Analog signals are transmitted via the shortest possible path and converted to digital signals by a high quality 24 bit/96 kHz A/D converter, thus passing the signals to the digital mixing stage under optimum conditions. Through the use of a 32 bit DSP, mixing is achieved with zero sound quality degradation for professional DJs working in clubs. To get the most from these features, a great deal of care has been paid to perfecting the sound quality, including a high-rigidity chassis to cut down unnecessary vibrations that might affect the sound. Together with a high performance power section using an R-core transformer, the DJM-1000 has clear and powerful sound ideal for club performances.

Digital IN/OUT
Using digital input connectors supporting multiple sampling rates (44.1/48/96 kHz), a system can be built in which no sound quality degradation occurs when connecting to external digital devices. A DIGITAL OUT connector with a 24 bit/96 kHz sampling rate is provided, facilitating recording at studios and other situations demanding high sound quality. Supports only linear PCM.
