Music genres (music types)
Pop music
Pop music is popular music generally music in the chart but now when some one says pop music you think of cheesy music. Pop goes down well with children and also mix groups, its music that most people can dance to and enjoy. Some examples that we use all the time are:
* Britney Spears - One more time
* S-club 7 - Reach
* Kylie - Spinning around and Cant get you out of my head
* Shania Twain - that don't impress me much
* DJ Otzi - hay baby
* Ricky Martin - She bangs
Other good pop songs to use when DJing are the dance ones these are always good to use and we always use some without fail, these songs are good to get people of all ages on the dance floor some examples are:
* DJ Casper - Cha cha slide
* Wigfield - Saturday night
* Village people - YMCA
* Los del Rio - Macarena
60s, 70, 80s and 90s
All of the above have some true classics, these are floor fillers at weddings and parties with a mix age audience. The sixties had a lot of rock and roll music, this tends to get a lot of people dancing away. The 70s and 80s were both decades filled with classic tunes of all types again are liked by all different ages.
The 90s was filled with very different music although it is a very popular era, we very often get requests for songs from the 90s. we have found that at a mix age disco you will be required to switch from old to modern music all night, this can be hard at first but after time you find out what songs go with what and also the song the guests like.
Some of the tunes we always use from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s are:
* B52s - love shack
* Michael Jackson - thriller, Billie jean and other Jackson classics
* Mud - tiger feet
* Gloria Gaynor - I will survive
* Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive
* Pointer Sisters - I'm So Excited
* Deee-Lite - groove Is In the Heart
* Brian Adams - Summer of 69
Hip hop and R n B
Hip hop and R n B don't seen like the kind of music you would play at a disco but you have to play anything, they are both very popular now with the younger audience but you would be suppressed how many people like it and dance to it. You mainly play the commercial tunes because some other have very bad language witch in a lot of cases you cant really play because of the children.
Here are some hip hop and R n B songs we recommend:
* Beyonce and Jay Z - crazy in love
* Nelly and Kelly - dilemma
* Usher - Yeah
* Justin Timberlake - Like I love you and Rock your body
* Kelis - Milkshake
Dance
The dance genre is again very popular with the younger audience, so you will need to play some sometimes the dance floor will stay busy, other times it may kill it.
You will need to experiment with it to find out what works.
Here are a few dance songs we use quite a lot:
* Ultrabeat - pretty green eyes
* Faithless - insomnia
* Benny Bennassi - Satisfaction
* Armand van Helden - My my my
Slow songs or love songs
Love songs you will always need for the end of the night or first dance etc. there are some obvious choices that always work it really doesn't matter who you are performing for you always need a few slow songs. We find if you use some old and modern slow song it goes down well.
Some examples of what we use are :
* Robbie Williams - angles
* Aerosmith - don't wanna miss a thing
* Dirty dancing - The time of my life
* Ronan Keating - If Tomorrow never comes
* Brian Adams - Every thing I do I do for you
